What If You Don't Get To Go????
What happens when your plan A get’s completely changed? If you are in sports ( or anything really) long enough at some point you’ll experience a time where you set out a big goal, are really excited, really focused on something and then shit happens and you aren’t able to do it. YET!!
YET is probably the most important word in this process.
First, it’s important to remember we don’t live this life for one singular event or goal. Events, goals, and targets are ever evolving and changing. Hopefully you’ve figured out that you do this lifestyle no matter what is on your docket for a target. I know for me I keep a pretty similar schedule whether I’m headed towards a race or not. The intensity of it and the focus of it changes for blocks, but the overall schedule really doesn’t change a lot. Someone once said to me live in a place and a life you want so if you never got to travel, vacation or go anywhere again you’d be perfectly happy living your life. Like where you live, like the lifestyle you’ve chosen, like the community you’ve created, like the habits and routine. This way when an event has to pivot due to things out of your control things really don’t change that much. You aren’t deflated completely. It’s o.k. to momentarily be pissed or down in the dumps. But in reality I’ll wake up Tuesday morning and meet my buddies to do hills if I’m racing or not. I’ll meet LP at the pool to swim 4k if I’m headed to an event or not. Someone said to me this past week, “ I guess you don’t have to swim right now if there isn’t a race.” And I thought, “Yes I do, I gotta go see LP, I like my tan ;), and boy do I love the peace and feel the water brings to my life!”
So at some point we are all faced with a quick pivot on our toes. But your roots should be deeply grounded with what you love. Be you, love what you do, keep making progress whether you toe a line or not. And remember…. You just aren’t able to go YET!!!!
