How can I take responsibility as an athlete and what conversations should I be having with my coach? What is in MY CONTROL!?
Physical:
Training program and appropriate preparation- be event specific
Travel; when in relationship to the event, how to arrive in best condition, know your place of arrival and what’s available.
Nutrition plan well practiced and outlined; hydration, sodium, fueling
Pre Race Warm Up- Hot weather versus cold weather. What’s available.
Medical clearance; health and injury.
Skills:
Swim navigation and readiness for conditions
Bike skills; descending, aid stations, groups, getting nutrition, cornering
Run pacing and troubleshooting
Mental:
Goal setting appropriate
Clear race planning; pacing, nutrition, gear, course knowledge
Confidence in game day decision making and troubleshooting
Using gadgets appropriately
Knowledge of rules, course, conditions
Focus plan and refocus plan
Equipment:
Skill level appropriate
Well practiced on similar course terrain when possible.
Conditions appropriate- wetsuits, staying warm, staying cool, wind, shoes, wheels, gearing, helmets.
Course terrain appropriate
